SANTO DOMINGO, RD.- Frecuentemente escuchamos un comentario popular, que en la mayoría de los casos no es mencionado en sentido negativo, y dice así: “…si hasta hablaron de Cristo !!! ”, quien es para muchos lo más grande que ha tenido la humanidad.
Ahora bien, hablar del gran maestro Wilfrido Vargas con relación a su trayectoria, también dicen muchos que debemos “quitarnos el sombrero”. Es muy fácil no recordar a tiempo, pero también es muy cómodo hacer pronunciamientos nocivos a un determinado género musical.
Citamos textualmente a continuación las declaraciones de Wilfrido Vargas sobre el dembow: “El dembow no es música, sino algo para entretenerse y es peligroso que se le abra espacio a ese tipo de iniciativa que es hasta cierto punto dañina, el cual no tiene un rango mínimo de dignidad”. Este comentario del maestro Vargas, a mi juicio un poco fuera de lugar, ha sido cuestionado y para algunos malinterpretado. Con todo el respeto que se merece el maestro Wilfrido quiero externar mi opinión sobre sus declaraciones.
La historia de Wilfrido Vargas está reflejada en cuatro décadas musicales, y en sus inicios todos los de esa generación sabemos que su música era considerada como un merengue rebelde fuera de tono y diferente a la propuesta musical de aquella época. Haciendo memoria de sus primeros merengues populares, como por ejemplo cuando Wilfrido lanzó El jardinero o El Africano, provocaron comentarios muy similares a los comentarios del dembow hoy en día.
Pero también debemos aclarar que Wilfrido Vargas fue una novedad musical de la época y su música, aunque su estilo musical en determinado momento, fue clasificada como mala por los grandes cambios y transformaciones que planteaba y muchos no entendían el tipo de merengue que Wilfrido hacía. Claro, esto fue en su primera etapa. Y la historia ha demostrado, con sus altas y bajas, que Wilfrido fue llenando las expectativas musicales acorde a los tiempos. Y me gustaría que Wilfrido tomara en cuenta estos detalles en sus próximas declaraciones.
Ahora me pregunto yo, quien le da el derecho a Wilfrido de cuestionar un género musical, cuando el pasó por esos mismos inicios que están pasando los interpretes del dembow y más aún cuando su música inicialmente fue considerada mala. Y me voy aún más lejos las producciones de Wilfrido Vargas en su mayoría no son consideradas como clásicos musicales, muy diferente a otros merengueros o agrupaciones que su música, aún con el pasar del tiempo, suenan como si fuera su época de oro. Y sigo abundando, y puedo decir que por los tantos cambios y diversas tonalidades musicales implementadas por Wilfrido para ajustar su música, la mayoría de sus producciones no son tan recordadas por el público en general. Claro está, en honor a la verdad, Wilfrido no era cantante.
Pero si para el maestro Wilfrido es muy fácil cuestionar un género que está empezando y que todavía no se ha definido como estilo musical, y sin embargo a Wilfrido le ha tomado cuatro décadas definir su estilo. El género dembow, apenas con dos años de existencia, por el que han pasado muchos exponentes, y vale la pena resaltar que los exponentes iniciales del denbow no son los exponentes que están sonando ahora, o sea notamos que poco a poco van mejorando su calidad musical.
Reconocemos en Wilfrido un gran maestro musical, y por su orquesta han pasado diferentes intérpretes, siendo la única orquesta que se hizo reconocer por el nombre del maestro Wilfrido Vargas, y no por el de sus intérpretes, sin embargo hoy en día, la mayoría de los que pasaron por allí se han mantenido activos en la preferencia del público cosechando grandes éxitos. Wilfrido Vargas ha sido líder del merengue en Centro y Suramérica, pero no ha sido profeta en su tierra, según nuestra opinión.
Quiero decir públicamente que para mi la música denbow no es mala, más bien si puedo asegurar que algunos intérpretes con su pobre lírica hacen su propuesta musical realmente mediocre, y más aun cuando reciben el respaldo de los medios de comunicación que no diferencian cuando la letra de una canción no tiene un mensaje apropiado.
En cuanto a Sergio Vargas, un artista con una trayectoria definida mundialmente, y sobre todo profeta en su tierra, cuyas producciones musicales son recordadas como clásicos musicales, es decir que la gente lo canta, lo baila y lo goza como el primer día. Apoyamos el rechazo de Sergio a las declaraciones de Wilfrido sobre el dembow, y nos solidarizamos con sus consideraciones cuando Sergio expresa que el dembow es una música que representa la dignidad de los jóvenes de los barrios, y añadió que decir de una manera tan simple y sin analizar que el dembow no es música es como agarrar el rábano por la rama.
Particularmente le sugiero al gran maestro Wilfrido, reunirse con los intérpretes del denbow y hacer su aporte, como solo él sabe hacerlo, para el mejoramiento de ese género musical llamado dembow, que poco a poco se ha convertido en el ritmo preferido de la juventud, y por esa razón entendemos que el maestro Wilfrido Vargas debe brindarles su apoyo. www.zabalaaldia.com
